We have completed the course of ladder safety awareness for this year and have been awarded with a certificate. Ladders can be used for work at height when an assessment of the risk for carrying out a task has shown that using equipment that offers a higher level of fall protection is not justified. To use a ladder, we must be competent or, if we are being trained, we should be working under the supervision of a competent person. Before using a ladder, we should have access to user instructions from the manufacturer in case we need to refer to them. We should always carry out a pre-use check to spot any obvious visual defects to make sure the ladder is safe to use. We also have to make sure to tie the ladder to a suitable point, making sure both stiles are tied, when is used. There are different types of ladders to choose from. We use leaning ladders and stepladders for our work.
